Chopard has served as the official timekeeper of the Chopard Mille Miglia Zagato Chronograph Replica Watch for 25 years. So, the Geneva-based jeweler created the Mille Miglia Zagato Chronograph as a celebration of that silver jubilee. So, when I learned that Chopard would be teaming with Zagato to create two 500-piece limited editions of their Mille Miglia Chronograph, I was excited, to say the least.
The potential in translating the Zagato design aesthetic to a watch that commemorates one of the great automotive rallies was limitless. While the two versions of limited edition Mille Miglia Zagato Chronographs (one in 18-karat rose gold and DLC-blackened stainless steel – Ref. 168550-6001 – and one in DLC-blackened stainless steel – Ref. 168550-3004) are certainly lovely examples of Chopard’s Mille Miglia collection, they are a bit underwhelming.
Both the 18-karat rose gold / DLC stainless two-tone and the DCL-blackened stainless steel versions are powered by the same self-winding 25-jewel automatic three-register chronograph movement with GMT and date functions. The two-tone has a DLC-blackened stainless steel case, crown and bottom pusher with a rose gold top pusher and bezel. The gold bezel is fitted with a bright red aluminum insert. The all DLC-blackend stainless steel version is, just that, all DLC stainless steel.
Both have a subtle and subdued design chopard mille miglia replica is rather lovely but lacking a bit of Zagato’s unique style. The Zagato influence, what little there appears to be, is seen on the dials. The two-tone Mille Miglia Zagato has a black dial embossed with a whole lot of Zagato’s stylized “Z” logo. The Mille Miglia Zagato stainless steel variant’s dial is a bit more dynamic. The main portion of the dial is silver with embossed Zagato logos and has black sub-registeres. The “Z” logo can be found on the crowns, as well.
Both versions of the Chopard Replica Watches are quite large. The cases measure 42.5mm in diameter and 14.85mm thick. Not small. And, both have a car-inspired bareina leather strap with gray or red stitching running the length of the bands. Turn the watches over to find the Mille Miglia race’s “1000 Miglia” arrow logo and the words “Special ZAGATO Edition” and “Limited 500” engraved into the casebacks.
I wish that Chopard had taken a bit more of Zagato’s styling into consideration when making the Chopard Mille Miglia Zagato Chronograph. Both versions are nice looking watches, but they could have been much more. Oh well, maybe for the 50th anniversary. Only 500 pieces will be made of each style, the two-tone and the DLC stainless steel.
