All watch images by David Bredan. Everything about it, to me at least, sounded both charmingly surprising and reassuringly familiar; unique and natural. It was all lovely in the truest sense of the word. Utterly typical for these affairs, it was just after some time which I started to see its flaws and I am yet to take them — clearly, the very first impression was just too awesome for its own good. Let us begin with the positives.Wrapped in a 41mm wide, perfectly round polished ribbon of rose gold, with its narrow, straight lugs and slender profile, the exterior of this green dialed Altiplano works more as a closely chosen frame of a beautiful painting compared to something which would carry much visual weight or significance in its own right. I’m sure there’s a fantastic article somewhere out there about how picking the wrong frame can destroy the viewing enjoyment of this finest of all paintings, and I’m also sure what’s been said there applies to the particular watch instance only the same. The Altiplano really shines in this setting even more so than when paired with some of the dull, more basic dials which Piaget offers farther down the Altiplano food-chain. It’s only now that I understand just how for years I’ve been trying to “have” the Altiplano but it never came together this one does — there eventually is the ideal balance between dial and situation, not just proportions-wise, but also in textures and colors and so forth.

Starting this upcoming Monday, January 16th, and running through Friday, January 20th, is the always anticipated, annual Salon International de la Haute Horlogerie (SIHH) watch exhibition in Geneva, Switzerland. The exhibition will feature displays from some of the largest watch brands as well as a stable of independent brands who are newly invited for 2017. This year also features a first for SIHH – a day open to the public on the final day, January 20th. The aBlogtoWatch team will be ready and present with the most comprehensive reporting of the event, and we will be bringing you our hands-on coverage of the latest novelties to debut at SIHH 2017. And if that didn’t already excite you, get ready to take an even closer behind the scenes look when we host our own aBlogtoWatch day on Thursday, January 19th at the show.

Seventeen exhibitors can be seen: A. Lange & Söhne, Audemars Piguet, Baume & Mercier, Cartier, Girard-Perregaux, Greubel Forsey, IWC, Jaeger-LeCoultre, Montblanc, Panerai, Parmigiani, Piaget, Richard Mille, Roger Dubuis, Ulysse Nardin, Vacheron Constantin, and Van Cleef & Arpels.  This year marks the second of the Carré des Horlogers, now grown to thirteen independent brands: Christophe Claret, Grönefeld, H. Moser & Cie., Hautlence, HYT, Laurent Ferrier, MB&F, Manufacture Contemporaine Du Temps, Ressence, Romain Jerome, Speake-Marin, Urwerk, and Voutilainen.
